If
you're here in summer, you might want to visit the fine beaches at Elitsa and Agios
Saranta, or head south to Milopotamos or the more
cosmopolitan resort of Aghios Ioannis, before continuing on to the
villages of Milies and Vizitsa.
THE APPLES: If you're here in spring, you'll smell the apple blossoms from the neighbouring orchards; Zagora is Greece's largest producer of apples, which are harvested mid-September to mid-October when the village is particularly busy. Don’t forget to refresh yourself with the succulent apples of the region. |

Zagora has a splendid 18th-century church with a bell tower that looks almost Alpine, along with several buildings with exterior porches that were built to protect people not from the summer sun, but from the winter snow. TRANSPORTATION BY LOCAL BUS
This lovely bar, in the main square of Zagora, enjoys views of the Aegean Sea through its windows. Painting by Chris H. U. James. |
