TSAGARADA - the village of the flowers

The well preserved village of Tsagarada stretches over 5 kilometres along the main
road and comprises four communities: Agia Paraskevi, Aghia Kyriaki, Aghios
Stefanos and Aghioi Taxiarhes, each
with its own leafy square. The views are dramatic, looking across the plunging mountainside to
the Aegean below. A beautiful rambling village, with plenty of flowers, old
churches, cobbled mule tracks, chestnut trees, and traditional architecture.
Guests are spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches. Milopotamos, Fakistra, Damouchari, Papa Nero and Plaka - each one a picture postcard - are all only a short drive away. Paths lead down the mountainside for the more adventurous and one can always take a taxi back! |

THE PLANE TREE: The best plant of all in Pelion region is the plane tree in the main square of Aghia Paraskevi, one of the most extraordinary plants anywhere in the world. It is said to be 1,000 years old and has a trunk of 14m in diameter. One of its branches is propped up on a stone plinth, as though it is leaning against a bar. Contrary to the usual laws of botany, two other branches join together above the trunk to form a single, seamless arm. It doesn't seem like a plant at all, more like a giant cuttlefish. You can imagine it staring at you like a chess player who has just made the winning move and is waiting to see how long it takes you to realise. |
