Pelion is noted for its churches, which are low and rectangular, with outside
galleries and sometimes separate bell towers. Every village, every valley, every slope
of Pelion is crowned by its
church. Very beautiful basilicas, with outer narthexes and stone benches with a
rich interior adornment, with costly and well made iconostases gather the
faithful and the lovers of beauty.
At
Zagora
all the churches are monuments of art, with wood-carved iconostases
of great value, with portable Byzantine icons, with precious sacred vessels,
improvised museums safeguard the portable objects from every attack, but they
also show them to the pilgrim. |
