Sardinian Warbler  (Sylvia melanocephala)

Typical inhabitant of maquis scrub, very secretive, often the only clue to its presence is its call. They are mainly residents but some birds migrate.

 

  • Length: 13 cm
  • Description: Males have solid black head with white throat, grey body and red eye ring. Females have lighter grey head; immature and fall adults have grey brown head with white eye ring. Males have bright red eyes. They are much darker than all similar species.

  • Flight: Very active, darting from bush to bush with half spread tail, displaying white outer tail feathers.

  • Feed: Insects and soft fruits.
